The on-site SEO rule of three
I do not use three h1s. I do not use three h2s. I don’t even mention my keyword in my headers three time if you aggregate all the keywords in the headers. I do not use any alt text for images more than once maybe twice that have the same keyword. I do not do anything more than twice when I write content.
What does work with SEO
If you follow this rule I think you will get better results in the Google and other search engines. Why? Today’s search engines are looking for natural language. Natural language writers do not repeat keywords or try to manipulate SERPs. They simply write on their topic and use H tags and alt text as they develop naturally. After they are done with the text they look it over and may ‘help’ the text by adding one or two keyword synonyms if they feel the focus is not adequate. But nothing more than two times, its my rule of thumb. In my personal experience low keyword density and synonyms words better than anything else when tweaking online content for search engine optimization.
